About us & resources > Environment

What effect am I having on the environment by using timber?

All Bakers Timber buildings are produced using timber and sheet materials from sources dedicated to the principle of 'sustained yield' and are FSC or PEFC accredited.

For each mature tree harvested, two young trees are planted. Young trees for old helps the environment by reducing the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse gas, is a result of producing energy. It takes approximately five times the energy to produce a reinforced concrete beam and nineteen times the energy to produce an RSJ, compared to a timber beam or joist of the same strength. We at Bakers remain supportive to the principle of efficient forestry management on a sustained yield basis.

We offer our non-treated timber to charities and the rest of our waste is sent to a recycling plant. We enjoy working with suppliers that also hold these principles.
