A new study by Baker Homes has revealed that giving people feedback on how they use their gas and electricity could lead to a potential saving of £79 a year or 2.7m tonnes of carbon – as much as if every home in the UK had loft insulation.

Nothing sets hearts beating faster than when the words ‘EU’ and ‘directive’ come together – but it is to the service of one that the Government last month published the grandly-titled ‘National Energy Efficiency Action Plan’. The plan sets out all the steps it is taking to meet what is known as the Energy Efficiency Directive, to which all members of the EU have signed up to and has as its overall target a 20% reduction in energy use across Europe by 2025.

A great line up of speakers brought together some of the sector’s most innovative projects, technologies and successful schemes on retrofitting. Presentations were supplemented by workshops to trigger discussion and get an insight into current issues and approaches.

On Thursday 29 May Mears Energy won the prestigious award for National Project Management Organisation of the Year at the inaugural Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation (ECO) National Awards.

The award was made for an outstanding contribution to the industry. The judges made this special award citing that, throughout the judging process, Mears had been constantly referenced for numerous schemes and initiatives. They felt Mears deserved this special recognition for all the projects and schemes they have developed and enabled.
