SHIFT Awards 2015 - Recognising the social housing sector’s achievements

Posted by Guest Author on 08/10/15 08:00

This is a key time for the social housing sector. Shaped with the regulatory uncertainty and recent budget and funding cuts, the highest priority for the sector is to ensure it is prepared for the future.

As housing associations develop new business models constrained by a new social, political, regulatory and economic reality, their aim is to continue to deliver good quality homes that are genuinely energy efficient and affordable whilst ensuring the resilience of their organisations and the overall sector.

Indeed, the sector’s efforts in improving the quality of homes is providing significant and measurable outcomes including reduced fuel poverty, improved health for residents while saving landlords thousands of pounds. In doing so, social landlords are also making a significant positive contribution to the UK’s sustainability targets.

2015 was indeed a critical year for the sector, and as the year comes to a close it is also a time to recognise and celebrate the organisations that have demonstrated to be at the forefront of a sustainable social housing sector, through their best-practice approach, new business models and resilience.

The SHIFT Awards are the UK’s sustainability awards for social landlords. These awards recognise and celebrate outstanding sustainability driven projects and leadership within social housing.

These awards will particularly distinguish social landlords who have demonstrated leadership in sustainability and have achieved significant operational cost savings through environmental improvements. The SHIFT Awards will also be celebrating the extraordinary achievements of SHIFT accredited landlords in a special category.

The Awards will be presented in conjunction with the Buildings & Energy Efficiency Awards at a high profile black tie dinner and networking event on Tuesday 10th November 2015 at the Grand Hall in the Palace Hotel - Manchester. This is an unmissable sector event. We are also delighted to announce that Lord (John) Prescott will present the Awards and deliver the keynote address.

Join us in this special night celebrating the sector’s achievements. The closing date for submissions has now been extended to 5pm on 16th October 2015.

The sustainability standard for the housing sector

SHIFT is the sustainability standard for the housing sector. Accreditation demonstrates delivery against key

environmental targets provides a route-map for improvement and allows organisations to compare performance against their peers.

Landlords involved manage homes for over 2 million residents across the UK and are assessed each year against hard metrics such as minimum SAP, adaptation to flooding and new build homes. These assessments lead to the presentation of Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Commended accreditation.
