Find out how we helped transform an unloved garden and swimming pool into a tranquil pool side haven and art studio for a hardworking Surrey couple.

The project - a Pool Side Room in Croydon, Surrey

The clients wanted to renovate an old dilapidated swimming pool and put their large garden to good use (until that point it was largely under utilised). Our aim was to create an oasis of tranquility for an extremely hard working couple.

The work - building a tranquil pool side room

After viewing one of our buildings on display at Garden Buildings, Woodcote Green, the clients contacted us and a site survey was conducted by Martin Baker before the final project details were drawn up.

This comprehensive and multifaceted project was broken down into 2 phases. The first was to dismantle and dispose of an existing building and clear the overgrown garden area (including tree removal), as well as design and instal the poolside garden room/art studio. And the second was the installation of the combination change room/pump house.

As the pool room also doubles as art studio, water was required so we designed a clever plumbing system for water into the main building and incorporated this discreetly behind the custom made bar.

The waste water out of the building was again cleverly concealed behind a custom made external cupboard made from composite decking which blends in perfectly with the outside garden area.

Both buildings are lined and insulated for year round use and come with a wide variety of impressive features that include timber laminated flooring, MDF painted internals, painted externals in Sadolin Superdec's 'Signal Grey', 3,9m wide aluminium bi-folding doors, and an all inclusive electrics package that includes phone, internet and TV together with our standard heating, lighting and socket options.

A heated towel rail was installed in the change-room area of the second building and a clever integrated heat exchange gives the pool-side area cool air an particularly hot days.

Our team also laid an extensive area of composite decking with floor lighting around the buildings and pool area and custom made fencing/panelling painted in Sadolin Superdec.

The result - a smooth project and magnificent pool room

Working alongside a local swimming pool company, we ensured this Surrey-based project ran as fluidly and smoothly as possible from start to finish. And the finished result is truly magnificent.
