Customer Comment:
"We were very pleased with the entire experience of planning and building our contemporary garden studio. From the first meeting with Martin Baker we knew that we were dealing with professionals who had a detailed understanding of our needs and how best to achieve the brief. The entire design process was thorough and forward thinking. Martin helped us to think about how we were going to use the space in the building and design the lighting, power points, heating and broadband access points in an ergonomic and intelligent way. The number of choices of finish and overall appearance was not overwhelming but enough for us to put our own stamp on the look of the building. In fact we were really excited at the end of the design process to see how it would be realised. We couldn't have been more amazed at the outcome. The installation was terrific, all the Bakers guys were true craftsmen and put the building together in an incredibly short time. In little over a week from breaking the soil for the base we had a home office. It has been a great choice going with Bakers. We would recommend them highly as a thoroughly modern choice but with the traditional values of customer service and a craftman's eye for detail."
This customer was essentially looking for a contemporary garden studio in which he could play his guitar, and as he commutes into London every day, he was also looking to make part of this a home office.
From the site survey we gave a detailed quotation for the entire project, this included: a steel and timber frame base dugout to the rear and retained to keep the entire building under the 2.5m planning rule.
The building as standard was insulated, lined and double glazed and added to this was our extremely efficient LowE glass. This has a heat reflective self-cleaning outer coat (keeping the heat out in the summer), warm edge glazing bar and argon gas infill that hugely reduces the transfer of cold from one pane of glass to the other, and the planitherm internal heat reflective coat retaining the heat in the winter.
As the customer was looking to match the flooring with their house, we installed quick step Pacific oak plank. Added to this was the MDF painted internals in our standard Angora cream colour, and the Sadolin superdec external painting colour in jungle green makes for a beautiful-looking room. Added to this was the fire board to the rear, as the building was within 1 m of the boundary, as well as our standard security pack that includes a five lever mortice lock bonded glass and locking windows.
We then installed a complete electrics and communications package. This included a superfast broadband connection, telephone and SKY TV along with the latest in low-energy LED lighting, heating and provision for climate control unit, should the customer wish to install it in the future.
The garden is now due to be landscaped and we will update the photos once this is completed.
