"We are absolutely delighted with our new garden room, which we have called our Zen Lounge. It is a quiet space at the end of the garden in which we can relax away from the hustle and bustle of the house, and with its floor to ceiling glass panels have an uninterrupted view out onto our garden. We were totally impressed by the quality of the build, the team of craftsmen who installed it and the electricians who added the lighting and electrical supply.
Everyone we have had contact with, from Martin, Kurt, Mark, Ian, Neil and Beverley have been both extremely professional and helpful and we would like to thank them all plus any back-room staff who were involved in the project who we might not have had the pleasure to meet. Also Bill for his initial help and advice,
Our new garden room is an L-shaped Kite and has been tailor made to include a concrete base and electrical supply for a future observatory to be installed next to it and everything has been organised with precision and care to provide for that additional building.
From start to finish everything has gone to plan and we particularly thank Martin for his initial site visit and the follow-up meeting at his headquarters to finalise the design.
We have nothing but praise for Bakers Timber Buildings and would recommend them unreservedly to anyone thinking of having a garden room installed."
This customer had an interesting idea: they were looking for an all year round garden room but wanted to incorporate an L-shaped area within the design for a telescope. After our site survey we agreed on the maximum size that we could fit in and how we would accommodate all their requirements.
We produced an L-shaped steel and timber frame base, and then laid a concrete base in the remaining area as this was needed for the stability of the telescope. Whilst laying the concrete base we also installed pipe work so cables could be run directly to the centre of the telescope.
Once the base was in place we agreed on a small decking area to the front to tie this in with the sleepers and the rest of the garden.
We then installed the lined and insulated kite garden room. Because this building is south-facing the customer decided to go for the low-E glass. Not only does this hold heating during the winter it also has a heat reflective self-cleaning external option holding out 60% of the heat that normal glass would let in.
The internals were finished with painted MDF, and the rear L-shaped part of the building had a door to create a cupboard/store at the rear. The electrics were installed which then completed the building.
Externally we applied two coats of Sikkens HLS in our Sussex garden building factory prior to delivery.
